Current Reading

  • Just finished James Morrow's The Philosopher's Apprentice, which I liked more than Oryx and Crake, which it reminded me of. Recommended.
  • Just finished Marketing for Dummies, which had some parts that were useful.
  • Almost done with Dumas' The Three Musketeers, which is a LOT more fun than I expected.
  • Partially into Martin Millar's The Good Fairies of New York and am not convinced I like it yet.
  • Partially into Farah Mendleson's The Rhetorics of Fantasy and keep getting slowed down by note-taking.
  • Have barely skimmed the surface of John Crowley's The Solitudes and Fraser's The Golden Bough.
  • Tempted to read the new Laurel K. Hamilton and see if it's any better.
  • Need to reread Raph Koster's A Theory of Fun.

Sadly, after what seemed like a return to form with the last book, the latest LKH has gone back to sex sex and more sex, and not even with the primary characters! Jason is the main man in this one, and while it's an interesting sidetrack, it makes you start to wonder if LKH has forgotten where she's going...

I got halfway through the Philosopher's Apprentice before getting completely bored. When the one story ends and another starts (very slowly, might I add) I just couldn't figure out why I cared anymore, and didn't make it very far past that break. I liked the voice, it just wasn't enough.

The Solitudes did not seem like my kind of book at first? And then it pulled me under and did not let me go until a third consecutive 5am in a row.

Holy dense, but wow.

Good grief, girl. When do you BREATHE? You must read a whole lot faster than I do.

I looove the Three Musketeers. None of the sequels measure up, though, which always makes me sad.
