Looking for a Slushreader
I am looking for someone interested in dedicating 5-10 hours a months to reading Fantasy Magazine slush. I will be glad to train you in considerations of online publishing and editing.  Position is unpaid but I would be glad to write letters of recommendation or whatever's needed for internship status and buy you drinks at conventions. I will be taking applications through August 8 at fantasysubmissions@gmail.com

To apply, please send the following:

  • your name
  • your contact information
  • your background in speculative fiction or publishing (it's fine if it's just "I like to read")
  • why you're interested in doing it
  • your three favorite short story writers and why
  • what magazines you like to read

Ooh - tempting. I've never actually slushed before. But alas, I just agreed to do this copyright-related gig, and I wouldn't want to overcommit myself ;-)

Sounds like a tremendous opportunity. I expect you'll be swamped with applications - perhaps you'll need someone to read the slush pile of applications for slush readers? :)

Would the gig DQ the reader from potential publication in Fantasy?

Are you for or against attachments for more "professional" resume style applications, or are you okay with just putting the required information in body of the email in an organized man?

Thank you.

I'm good either way as far as attachments go.

Sigh, yet another moat dragon: will these one have sharp fangs, but hopefully not poison-tipped?

I'm going to be picking pretty carefully :) I want someone I feel that I can work with easily, who has a sense of humor and is flexible and patient, and someone who I think will enjoy it and (hopefully) learn something from the experience.
