Did You Need A Rationalization for Book Buying?
I blew some money this weekend at the bookstore as a reward to myself for beating Nano goals. This (pointed out by Edmund Schubert) made me feel a bit less guilty about doing so. And I can excuse it further by saying it was all market research, since about 3/4 of it was urban fantasy, including a couple more Lilith Saintcrow books, as well as stuff from Libba Bray, Glen Cook, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Melissa Marr, Rob Thurman, and Liz Williams. Yeah. That's right, that's the ticket.

So far today, I've done some editing, written 1300 words, run a load of dishes, checked my auctions on World of Warcraft, and cleaned the litter box. Surely it's time for more coffee.

What Cook and Kiernan didja swoop? I'm guessing the Cook is part of that Non-UF fraction?

Cook - Cruel Zinc Melodies, because a recent discussion of urban fantasy reminded me of his fantasy PI books, actually. And Murder of Angels by Kiernan - re-read Silk earlier this year, and since this looks to be a sequel, I'm excited.

One google search later, I concur that Cook's Garrett PI series looks cool and very different from the stuff of his I'm familiar with--that's me served proper for making assumptions. I haven't read either of those Kiernan novels but I've noticed she does like revisiting characters--yet to check out Low Red Moon, her follow-up to Threshold. I've liked everything of hers that I've read, once the stack dwindles I'll look into Silk.

Yeah, the Garrett series is very different from the Black Company books (although I really like those very much as well). They're got a real sense of fun to them.

Save your receipts. These research books are a tax deduction.

The day I discovered books were tax deductible for me was a happy one indeed. ;)

Searched for you on nano today to see how you were doing and add you to my buddy list, but no luck. What's your Wrimo user name? Mine is Redd Herring, currently almost lurking at just over 8K words, trying to get an anthology story off by 11-15.
