Purdy Much Sums It Up
I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute. -Rebecca West

Feminism is the radical belief that people are human...

Yeah.

What? You mean, we have other choices besides doormats or hookers? Someone should have told me.

Funny you should mention this. I wrote my first bit of feminist rant in a long while just the other day, in reaction to references to spanking wives and then great sex following DV in John D. McDonald's A PURPLE PLACE FOR DYING (original copyr. 1964, the third Travis McGhee novel). Is it just me or is the unlamented recitation of these and other anti-female sentiments in this novel offensive to those of us who might be distinquished from doormats and hookers?

Not to mention the police sergeant (I think in Brooklyn) who called on his women officers as "ho's" during line-up just the other day(as reported by the NY Times).

Has anything changed since 1964?

Some, but not enough. There seems to be a lot of two steps forward, a step and three-quarters back.
