The gloom hath rays, her lump is love [Jul. 10th, 2008|09:07 am]

So I finished Laurell K. Hamilton and I've got to say the long passages where they sit around talking about sex ends up edging closer and closer to the long philosophical passages in the Marquis de Sade, where everyone's just sitting around naked talking and sipping hot chocolate with cantharides in it in preparation for the next bout of sexual excess.

Now I need to Do a Bunch of Things.

I think this comic sums up LKH pretty well:

As I mentioned on Blog for a Beer a few weeks ago, I used to read a lot of her stuff, but the Anita Blake series just became too much for me. I kept reading the Merry Gentry series until Mistral's Kiss, because at least with those books the necessity of sex was more believable. That and the mythology of the Sidhe was superbly done. If it weren't for the fact that Mistral's Kiss was essentially three chapters' worth of plot and lots and lots of sex I'd probably still be reading, but it just doesn't seem worth the trip to the library (let alone the price of a book) to keep up with it.

I've developed a similar problem with Robert B Parker, where they'll frequently sit around psychoanalyzing a situation before the next action sequence.

Are you saying you read everything? Anita Blake, Merry Gentry? If so, my hat is off to you. I read the first two Merry gentry book, loved them, then reread them and realized how much I hated the main character, and I didn't understand why I missed that before.

Fangoria Magazine said the latest LKH was better than the last two, but that it wasn't saying much.

The review said that Anita now has four different breeds of lycanthrope in her. I think i just came up with my next parody.

because ain't lycanthropic sex another way of saying "furries"?
