I would like to politely ask you not to do this any more. If I wanted to read people's twitters I would have a Twitter account. I think the whole idea of microblogging is annoying.

Well, and I agree that I don't like the people who do a constant stream of Twitters. Yesterday, it was my only way of blogging through most of the day, and by request, I try to post at least once a day so family knows I'm alive and well. I would suggest that either you wait and see if the number of Twitters is at a level that annoys you, or remove me from the friends list, because it's a useful way for me to briefly blog when something amuses me.

That's fair enough. I posted that comment because I'm starting to see my friendslist fill up with tweets. Because I have no way to filter these posts out other than removing the posters from my friendslist, which I don't want to do, I figured I'd leave a comment asking each of them not to do this.

really? on her own blog, you ask her to not post what she likes, in whatever manner that she likes, because it doesn't suit you?

are you kidding?

I suppose I could have just un-friended her without explanation. Would that have been better?

I decided to comment rather than just removing her from my friendslist because I do want to read her longer, more considered blog posts, and LiveJournal doesn't provide me any way to choose which posts I see. I intended it as feedback rather than as a command.

I always hate it when I find out later, or through some third party, that I lost a friend because I was doing something that annoyed them, and I wish my friend would have told me so I could stop doing it. Communication is important in maintaining relationships. However, it seems that I have managed this communication ham-handedly, and for this I apologize.

Thanks again for your considered reply. I think that I may have expressed myself badly, and I'm sorry if I caused you any distress. I'll try setting my posts-per-page to a larger number (I'd forgotten that was even an option).

No worries, David. I think all text messages can easily go awry, because it's hard to guess at tone/intent/etc.
