Summer is Starting

When I came home and got out of the car, the smell of the rain, just starting, was too sweet not to stay outside a little while longer. I walked down to the boatslips and around the cabana - the waterlilies are just starting to bloom, huge swathes of them, yellow and white. The swallows kept zipping by, at the level of the water, rising up past where I stood at the railing. Way out on the lake, I could see a heron circling, and I waited a while, hoping it would come closer, but it kept circling farther and farther away, until I looked somewhere else and then couldn't find it when I looked again.
