The Raw, the Cooked, the Weighty

I've been trying this diet which has been kicking my ass, but which is at least gradually diminishing said ass. This marks the second time in my life I've tried dieting, and it's less a desire to reclaim my girlish figure than a desire to feel healthier. At any rate, things I have learned from a raw food diet so far:

1) Pistachios and raisins are a pretty satisfying salty/sweet snack.
2) I do not like sprouts. They taste like dirt. I'm sure they add a lot of nutrition but...they taste like dirt.
3) Avocado and a fake pate made of sprouted cashews, almonds, etc. in a nori roll is just about as good as any fast food burger. In fact, it's better.
4) I love avocados. Avocados are Good.
5) Juicers are a pain in the butt to clean.
6) Being without coffee makes me sad.
7) Soup is generally nicer hot, although there are exceptions like gazpacho.
8) You really do need a dehydrator to pull this diet off. So far I've been suffering through without buying Yet Another Appliance, but it would have been a much better choice than the juicer.
9) It's easier to do this than calorie counting and feeling deprived. I think. While still mildly obsessing about food at first, the fact that so many snacks are verboten makes it a lot easier than measuring out the three grams of potato chips one is allowed.

At any rate, I went off the diet last night to eat things that had been COOKED at The Healthy Hedon last night, which was spectacularly good. Hurray for Chris and Mika for finding it!
