The House Smells Like Vanilla

I like to make what I can of my holiday gifts, so I've been experimenting with various recipes over the past couple of weeks. The candied pears one was a yuck-worthy disaster, but this no-knead bread was terrific and the sweet German mustard, while a little runny, is teh yum. And I have been eating too many of these caramels, which are waiting to be dipped in milk chocolate, and which were surprisingly easy to make with the assistance of a candy thermometer. If you make them, be sure it's a pretty sizeable pot -- I had to switch mine from a 2 quart saucepan into the pressure cooker's pot in a somewhat sticky episode reminiscent of an I Love Lucy re-run.
