Things I Tweeted Today

Today I used my bandwidth to say:

  • 09:38 What the heck kind of farmer's market opens at noon? Crossroads, you have failed me. #
  • 09:46 Anyone else going to the Michael Bishop reading tonight in Seattle? #
  • 10:04 I'm happy to say that "Seeking Nothing" will appear in a forthcoming issue of Daily Science Fiction - dailysciencefiction.com/ #
  • 10:26 It's a purdy good morning so far - "Angry Rose's Lament", which originally appeared in Abyss & Apex, will be podcast by Escape Pod. #
  • 10:26 It's weeks like this that I use to buoy myself up on the 4 rejection days. Okay, headdown and back to work! #
  • 14:48 First draft of "Starling's Wing" finished, clocks in about 6200 words. Sadly, the title has nothing to do with the story. But I like it. #

Snippet from Current Story, "The Coffeemaker's Passion"

With this piece, I'm thinking about texture, and trying to accomplish something different than some of the other recent pieces - create a clean, smooth humor piece that moves quickly and doesn't have a lot of verbal flourishes.

"Psst," the toaster whispered one morning as she was extracting an English muffin. "Take me in the other room, we need to talk."

She blinked.

"Don't say anything, I don't want him to notice. Just pretend to go about your business and then say you're going to take me for repairs."

The English muffin was burnt black. She looked at it unhappily.

"Gee," she said. "I guess I'll have to take you in for repairs."
